Infrared Jet of the Galactic Superluminal Source Grs 1915+105

A near-infrared jet emanating from the galactic superluminal source GRS 1915 + 105, discovered at λ = 2.2 µm by Sams et al. 8 on 18-21 July 1995, was not seen later anymore, neither in the Mirabel et al. 6 images, taken on 4 August 1995 and that we analyze here, nor by Eikenberry & Fazio 2 on 16-17 October 1995. Therefore, the radiative lifetime of the electrons which have created this emission...

Stellar Photometric Variability Within the Central 4 pc of the Galactic Center with Infrared Image Subtraction

We present a catalog of 110 variable stars within ∼ 1 of Sgr A* based on image subtraction of near-infrared (H and K) photometry. Our images were obtained over 133 nights from 2000–2002 in H-band and over 134 nights from 2001–2002 in K-band; the typical FWHM is 1.4. We match the catalog to other near-infrared, X-ray, and radio (i.e., maser) data, and we discuss some of the more interesting obje...

A Possible Link between the Galactic Center Hess Source

Recently, HESS and other air Čerenkov telescopes have detected a source of TeV γ-rays coincident with the Galactic center. It is not yet clear whether the γ-rays are produced via leptonic or hadronic processes, so it is important to consider possible acceleration sites for the charged particles which produce the γ-rays. One exciting possibility for the origin of these particles is the central b...
